CHANCEL CHOIR

Sing a New Song

Our choir enhances the worship experience as they communicate through music what words alone often cannot capture.

In many churches like ours, the choir that sings for the traditional worship service is an “Adult” choir; younger voices who might want to sing are relegated to a youth choir or a backup group in a praise band. To be honest, that attitude is part of our past, but now we welcome high school and college students who enjoy choral singing and want to serve in the Chancel Choir.

Of course, not all of our members are that new to the choir loft. Some of us have been here a while, and we have people singing who range in age from their teens to their seventies. Perhaps it’s that multi-generational aspect that keeps us all involved and feeling part of the larger congregation. It certainly keeps some of us feeling young!

We welcome new members at any time of the year, though we usually have a reduced schedule of rehearsals in June and July. When local school systems crank up for a new year in mid-August, and all our families have worn themselves out with vacations, we come together on Wednesday evenings to work on the music we’ll sing Sunday mornings in the sanctuary and for special programs throughout the year.
