NURSERY

Youngest Disciples

We believe even the youngest children of God are still active members of the body of Christ.

From Infancy through PreK, we have ways to engage your child with our church. See the information below for our nursery, baptism, and nursing mothers.

Nursery:

We are open! Our Nursery Hall is open for kids ages 12 weeks all the way up to Kindergarten. Once a child is old enough to attend school full-time, we feel they are capable of joining their adult(s) in worship.

Nursery Team:

All of our nursery workers are hired professionals. Most work in a classroom during the week and are CPR-certified. They have all participated in Safe Sanctuary Training and know best practices for diapering, feeding, and comforting. If you have questions, Ashley Hess at Ashley@firstchurchbhm.com  would love to share more.

Diaper Bags:

Please include all items your child will need for the hour they are with us in the nursery – examples include:

    • Diapers and wipes
    • Bottles or sippy cup
    • Change of Clothes
    • Pacifier or other comfort item

Label all items to ensure they land in the right bag.

Please communicate any food allergies to your child’s teacher. You can always include a nut-free snack for your child!

Please communicate if your child will need a bottle or nap. We allow 10 minutes maximum of cry-it-out time before contacting guardians. If you prefer a shorter time frame, please communicate that as well.

Observation Windows:

We have windows in the hallway for each classroom if you’d like to peek inside during worship.

Nursing Moms:

We have a nursing mother’s room available in the center room of the preschool area for your convenience.

Baptizing Your Child:

In the United Methodist Church, we believe that when we baptize an infant, baby or child, God’s grace is an act of love for life before we are aware or can claim it. God’s love for us is present first. We also believe that baptism is a great moment of significance for the whole church as we make a covenant to nurture this baptized person as they grow in relationship with God. We love welcoming the newly baptized into our community of faith as it is a joyful and prayerful day for us all! Baptism can happen at any age. For our youngest, we recommend waiting until their first wave of vaccines after 12 weeks of age. If you have questions or want to discuss scheduling a baptism, please email Stephanie York Arnold at Stephanie@firstchurchbhm.com.
