Who We Are

A Community of Faith

We are a unique community of faith made up of long-time church members as well as those who recently started attending, life-long United Methodists as well as people from other denominations or no religious background.

First Church is an active and growing church in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Alabama, and is
an Open Place for ALL to Worship, Grow, and Serve.

We promote an integrated theology that seeks to bring faith, belief, activity, and community engagement into alignment. We think it is important that what we believe is consistent with the way that we live.

We practice traditional spiritual disciplines of worship, prayer, service, and Bible study, which, along with our downtown context, influence our striving to be an Open Place for ALL to Worship, Grow, and Serve. In order to help you with your search for the community of faith that is the best fit for you, we want to highlight priorities we have developed out of those spiritual disciplines that identify us in more unique ways. The First Church Priorities are:

Each of the six First Church priorities are meant to serve as concrete ways that we seek to authentically live out Christ’s commandment to love all people. Loving our neighbor is not always easy and takes effort, sacrifice, and courage. It is our hope and commitment that the people of First Church will exhibit these priorities through consistent actions as we worship, grow, and serve together.
