SUNDAY SCHOOL

Learning Together

All of our Sunday School classes value their time each week as they practice community through learning and studying together.  

A warm invitation is extended to visit any of our classes. If you need assistance in choosing a class or finding your way, please ask at the Welcome Center.

Infants and Preschool

  • Age Range: 6 weeks through 4K
  • Location: Nursery, directly across from the Welcome Center

All of our infants and preschool children are invited to participate in Sunday morning activities in the nursery. Please contact Cristin Dedmon at Cristin@firstchurchbhm.com for help in finding which room best suits your child.

Elementary Age Children

  • Age Range: Kindergarten through 5th graders
  • Location: 2nd floor of the Education Building in various classrooms 

Elementary age children are invited to participate in a time of learning and playing together each Sunday at 9:45am. Please contact Cristin Dedmon at Cristin@firstchurchbhm.com for any questions you may have.

Youth Ministry

  • Age Range: 6th through 12th graders
  • Location: Basement Floor of the Sanctuary Building in the Youth Room

All 6th through 12th grade students are invited to join our small group gathering on Sunday mornings. We will learn as well as participate in fun activities together. Please contact Ashley Hess at Ashley@firstchurchbhm.com for any questions.

SALT (Sharing And Learning Together)

  • Age Range: Intergenerational
  • Location: Bottom Floor of the Education Building in the first room on your right of the hallway

S.A.L.T. stands for Sharing And Learning Together—and that’s the heart of this class. With equal emphasis on Bible study and fellowship, we welcome ALL. Join us 15 minutes early for coffee and meet friends you haven’t met yet! From 20-something’s to seniors, we share a desire to know more. We study the Bible, worship God, and seek to live like Jesus. Bible Study Class

  • Age Range: Intergenerational
  • Location: First Floor of the Education Building in the Library

The Bible Study Class covers various topics rooted in the text of the Bible and focused on the history of the Bible’s text and its ongoing historical interpretations from the biblical era to today. Topics are typically covered in short (one- to two-month) series and are taught by a rotating group of class members. We meet at 9:30 and begin discussion at 9:45. All are welcome. IRL – In Real Life

  • Age Range: Intergenerational
  • Location:Second Floor of the Education Building in the first room past the elevator

IRL is a class made up of people from all ages and stages of life who are seeking to find ways that faith intersects with real life. We cover topics like parenting, loss, relationships, sexuality, aging, love, marriage, work, and forgiveness in hopes of developing authentic relationships as we bring our questions, concerns, and struggles to one another.

Awakenings

  • Age Range: Intergenerational 
  • Location: Bottom floor of the Education building in the first room to your right

Each week features an interactive conversation on what Jesus described as essential to awakened human relationships: Justice – Mercy – Faith. Through personal story, the inspiration of Scripture, the Enneagram of spirituality, and more, we help one another in the ongoing inner work that leads to more awakened action in our personal relationships and in our wider communities of influence. Ecclesia-Wingard

  • Age Range: 35 – 90
  • Location: Bottom Floor of the Education Building in the second room on your right

We are a diverse group of open-minded believers, ranging in age from 35-90, including several retired United Methodist ministers. In addition to a wonderful roster of teachers from within the class, we host a variety of outside speakers. While our lessons come primarily from the Scriptures, we also enjoy presentations on a wide range of topics (books, outreach programs, service opportunities).  We gather at 9:30 to visit and chat, with the bell ringing to order at 9:45.
